Bread is a good source of energy. Wholemeal bread is believed to be more nutritious than white bread, as it is a great source of Vitamin B1, which is believed to be essential for transmitting messages between the brain and spinal cord. This is also required for creating the enzymes that transform food into fuel for the body. It features Vitamin B6, reported to help in promoting healthy skin. Wholemeal bread is said to be a good source of folic acid and Vitamin E.  Wholemeal bread has higher quantities of zinc in comparison to white bread.
The selenium content of wholemeal bread is high and selenium is seen as an important antioxidant. However, white bread features higher amounts of calcium than wholemeal. White bread is a starchy food, which releases energy more steadily than sugary foods, resulting in fewer swings in blood sugar.
