Prunes
Prunes are thought to be beneficial for the brain, blood circulation and for combating constipation. Prunes feature large amounts of oxalic acid. Consuming prunes is also reported to be good for lowering cholesterol. Prunes are said to contain the minerals calcium, potassium, phosphorus, beta-carotene and folic acid. Prunes are enriched in fibre and iron and contain large amounts of niacin, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin A. Prunes contain hydroxy-phenylisatin. This chemical is reported to trigger the smooth muscle of the large bowel, which is an effective, gentle and non-purging laxative. They are also rich in antioxidants.
