Epilepsy

A condition where abnormal bursts of electrical activity in the brain are thought to cause fits or possibly other neurological disturbances, epilepsy may be resulted by an injury to the brain, such as a head injury after a road accident, or it has been reported to be an inherent problem.
Sufferers of epilepsy have warning signs of an attack. Attacks may occur for no reason and may be precipitated by flashing lights or flickering screens. Epileptics may bite their tongues or pass urine while in a fit. An epileptic fit might happen during sleep or while lying down. After suffering from an attack it is known to have no memory of the attack at all. Some people that suffer from epilepsy may identify what may set off the attack. Many people suffering from epilepsy might need to take long term medication to monitor fits. Folic acid is said to be essential for women that suffer from epilepsy; this is because epilepsy drugs may affect the way folic acid is absorbed from the diet.
Individuals suffering from epilepsy have been recommended to get plenty of sleep because fatigue has been reported to result in seizures. Also sufferers have been advised to avoid alcohol as it may interfere with anticonvulsant medications which have been reported to lead to seizures.
