The lungs are responsible for supplying oxygen to the body. It is brought into the lungs through inhaling, prior being transported into the blood for delivery to the organs.
The lungs are also responsible for releasing carbon dioxide from the body. This is done through exhaling, when the carbon dioxide passes out of the blood into the lungs and then goes out of the body through the mouth and nose.
The two lungs are situated at either side of the heart and are covered by ribs. These begin at the top rib, at the top of the chest and then down to the bottom rib next to the stomach.
